Evening at the Greats

It has truly consumed us {more of Daddy, than I}.

Picking.

Daddy thinks of it 24/7.  He has found something that he loves and as for me, well I enjoy it too.

We took a drive out to his Great Uncle & Great Aunt’s house one evening in search for some old rusty treasure.

While Daddy and his uncle rummaged through multiple sheds and a barn, the kids and I got the grand tour.  We had never been there, sadly.  They had such neat and unique gadgets, that I had to take pictures.

Here is the funniest looking ceiling fan I’ve ever seen.

Great Aunt was very good at sharing w/ us where she had seen one first and decided it was something they had to have. She smokes and this ceiling fan has a filter on the inside of that big ring and it helps absorb the smoke and nicotine.

Hmm, pretty neat.

Now we’ll move to their front yard.  This lovely manikin’s head greets you as you walk up their sidewalk.

Not scary, just surprising.  The kids thought it was bizarre, so in other words…COOL!

The story on this guy is that he was in a fire so that’s why he’s a lil darker and pretty much covered in ash.

This cute lil guy was hanging above a table they had on their front porch.  All made out of different food cans.

We had a great visit and will have to do it again.

Much Love,

Lindsey

First Day of First Grade

Miss Priss has reached another mile marker in her lil life.  She has officially made it into Elementary! She has been excited for the start of another school year all summer long.  I just can’t believe how fast the summer went…I feel like I had to time to prepare.

On the night before, I gave myself a task of finding a frame to put her ‘First Day of First Grade’ sign.  Last year she just held up the sheet of paper, but this year I tried to be a lil more creative and well a frame is as creative as I get. ;-)

I went thru the entire house looking for a white frame, but I couldn’t find one big enough.  I was about to just settle for a brown/black frame when I remembered we had a lot of leftover white floor trim.  I went outside to see the inventory and we had plenty.  Daddy followed behind, not knowing what I was trying to plan but knew I was looking for a frame.  Well he stepped right in and starting collecting the trim he needed and grabbed the miter saw and got to work.

I was so pleased!  I guess I thought I was going to have to beg and plead with him, but he stepped right in.

And who knew we would mess up on the first one and have to make a whole new one.  By this time it was dark and the kids needed their baths and bed.  I hated to leave him outside by himself, but I knew he didn’t physically need me there to finish the task.

I think it turned out great! I hope to keep it for all the years to come.

Once at school, we were led to the cafeteria where Miss Priss’ class would have to spend the first 2 days of school.  {They had a huge remodel and moving project over the summer and it wasn’t quite ready}

Here is Daddy and Miss Priss just outside her school, Art Goad Elementary.

And here is Miss Priss and I.

Once inside the cafeteria, it was a lil crazy w/ kids everywhere!  We easily found her class and she got reacquainted w/ all her friends she made in Kindergarten, playing softball and those at the Boys & Girls Club.

Here is Miss Priss and her teacher’s assistant, CaCa, {Daddy’s Aunt}!

Since CaCa is her class w/ her, Daddy and I will get photos of Miss Priss working on a project.

The most recent is a text message that I got from CaCa that was just hilarious!

Come to find out, she intended to say that her Aunt was pregnant and not her mother. Haha!

Miss Priss' 6th Birthday!

I can't believe that Miss Priss' birthday is over and done with.  She has been asking ALL year when is her birthday and to think that it’s all said and done, just means we’re moving on to The lil Monster’s birthday next.  L
Well Miss Priss requested a peace sign party theme, which I didn’t even have to ask her cause everyone knows her love for peace signs.  I went to order her cake and came across this really neat cupcake cake in the shape of a peace sign.  I loved it and I knew Miss Priss would love it too, so I ordered 2 dozen of their tie dyed peace sign cupcake cake.  The next couple of days I realized that we were going to have quite a few show up and had to add 2 more dozen for a total of 48 cupcakes.
Well when I got there to pick it up, I was terrified that nothing would be right since I only gave them a 5 days’ notice and then added to it just 3 days before the party.  But Wal-Mart bakery impressed me w/ exactly what I ordered, Thank God!

Miss Priss LOVED it!

She decided to smash the cupcake into her face.

Miss Priss w/ her close friends

Present time!

She loved goofing off for her friends.

After opening presents, they all gathered to play salon.

After her very successful party, we took our lil family plus 5 girls to our house for Miss Priss’ 1st Birthday Sleepover!!

I was very busy catering to these girls’ every need that I didn’t get a whole lot of pics, but I think I still captured some memories. J

Miss Priss and her friend, Lexi being all kinds of goofy.

Xbox Kinect Dancin'!

A lil coloring pow wow at the dining room table.

More dancing

By now they're having a karaoke/coloring pow wow
All in all {I use this term quite often I've noticed}, it was a great birthday and it took over a week to recover from. ;-)

Family/Miss Priss - July 2012

I have been wanting to get pictures made of my lil family at my grandparents house for a few months now.  When I ran across Denby Photography, I knew I had the photographer.  I went to school with her and she was still located in my hometown where my grandparents live.  She was just starting out her photography business and didn't even have prices listed on her business facebook page.  So I sent her a message telling her how much I loved her pictures and how much she would charge if I came to her.  I couldn't believe her answer of $25 w/ a CD of all the images, so I told her in the near future I would get back w/ her and we could make an appointment.

Well it took a few months before we were able to make plans to get to my grandparents, but I'm so glad we got them done.

The lil Monster was a lil uncooperative, but that was expected.  So we just went w/ it and hoped for the best.

I still think they turned out pretty good.  At least I'll have the memories of my grandparents' place in the background.

And since we took them in July, we also took care of Miss Priss' 6th birthday pictures.  She's always been my lil picture poser and it's so nice to have one kid that will.  :)

All in all, I'm really glad I found our photographer to capture this very close to my heart memory.

Antique/Thrift finds

My husband and I have been going at this summer for anything and everything old and cheap.  It has literally consumed our every thought.

I have always been fond of my Gran’s house and what she fills it with, but it’s just now becoming alive in me.  ‘What took so long’, I keep thinking.

But it’s here and it’s so much fun!!

I thought I would share with you what my husband and I have found recently.

My husband’s most exciting find is a 1960 scooter.  Now he knows the name and every other detail about it, but he’s not writing this post.  ;-)  Along with that scooter, he’s picked up a couple of antique Tonka trucks, gas/oil cans and a pair of antique moon shoes.

I was very impressed with his finds and the dollar amount that he paid for them…only $50.  J

Now my first exciting find has been a RC Cola box.  I’ve wanted a soda box carrier for a while, but wasn’t willing to pay big money for one.  I found this one and 2 bronze candle holders for I believe $10.

I stumbled upon this cute lil Owl necklace one day at a resale shop near my work and just had to pick him up for $6.

Now this next piece is literally just a find.  We did not buy them, but just fell in love with them.  I plan on finding my own and making a replica.

Isn’t she a beauty?!

Our most recent find was just this past weekend when we were driving out to my in laws.  We drive by this house ALL the time, but never noticed an antique piano sitting out of the front porch.  I ‘ooo’ and ‘awwe’ over it as we passed by.   My husband has really stepped his game on finding stuff we/he likes by simply going up to the person’s house and asking if something is for sale.  If any of yal know him, you know this is not like him at ALL!  But a love for ‘junk’ {as my father in law would call it} has taken over the old and really made him into a whole new person.

So as soon as we got to his mom’s house, he and Miss Priss took off to the house w/ the antique piano out front to see what it is they’re doing w/ it.  So yal must already know that we got the piano, but for how much you ask?

We totally got it for FREE!!  We just have to take it off their porch!  AAGGHH!  I’m so excited!

There is more to come!  Stay tuned…

Oh Board'm

The kids and I went out in the front yard one evening to give Daddy a lil more quiet so he could do his school work.

We had some scrap boards from the kitchen remodel and decided we could probably make something out of it for the kids to play with.

And sure enough we did.

At first they were just lugging the 2x4 around the yard like they were on a job site.

Then Miss Priss got a piece of plywood and had her a lil surfing how-to.

Then it turned into a teeter totter.  The lil Monster didn't really like bouncing around on his bottom so he opted for jumping and making sissy bounce around on her bottom.

Here's a look into how kids can have fun w/ items just laying around the house.

Lendonwood Garden

CONTINUED FROM MY PREVIOUS POST

My sister lives right by this beautiful garden that is put together by the community of Grove, OK.  They have a beautiful lil spot in the garden made specifically for weddings.  Oh what a neat lil place for my sis to tie the knot!  I'm going to have to start whispering that into her ear now.  :-)

So, Miss Priss asked if we could stop somewhere before we went home and I had already known about the garden and wanted to stop by and see what's inside.  So we made a lil U-Turn and headed to the garden for a quick lil stop.

It was about 102 degrees on this day, so a quick walk thru was all we were able to do.

I was trying for a cute lil moment w/ both the kids on the this bench just inside the gate, but as you can see The lil Monster wasn't willing.

Miss Priss enjoyed walking thru the garden w/ Button.

There wasn't as much color as I thought there would be, so I had to capture this beauty.

The lil Monster checking out the lil pond.

Here's a full length shot of the lil pond.

Just a lil sunlight thru the trees.

This guy we almost walked right by.  I don't know how Button didn't see this beast of a toad and chase him off.

A lil bit bigger pond w/ a lil waterfall and goldfish.

Loved the sound of the water moving across the rocks.

Neat lil archway into another part of the garden.

This pond was huge and had a deck to stand on and take in all it's beauty.

Here is the cute lil spot they have for their weddings.  I was trying to get a picture of both the kiddos standing in the middle of it, but I knew it would be 'too much to ask' for The lil Monster.  :-/

Miss Priss and Button walking back to the car so we could get out of the heat and into some A/C!

It really was a beautiful lil place.  I'm glad my sister decided to check it out prior to our visit and shared it w/ us.

Much Love,

Lindsey
